The New Chicago of Batman Begins

Dayne Cowan
Co-Head of 3D
Double Negative

As CG Supervisor on this film, Dayne Cowan describes the various methods and techniques that we used to create a digital Gotham city using the real city of Chicago for the film Batman Begins . It will cover not just the construction of the digital buildings, but all of the set dressing elements constructed to convincingly turn Chicago into Gotham.

It also discusses how we created some of the major CG elements in the film, such as the Monorail system, a photo realistic digital stunt double of Batman, the Batmobile and Wayne Tower . It also contains some rare behind the scenes footage from the shoot, as well as shot breakdowns of some of our major visual effects shots. The optimal integration of miniatures, live action and CG is also discussed.
