TROUGH THE LENSE:
ARCHITECTURE AND PHOTOGRAPHY
Alex Román
3D Artist
Ponenet

The world of digital architecture does not stop evolving: it’s a fact.
Some different original techniques in this field have originated from traditional illustration, but a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then and the various communication needs have been able to merge new techniques, aesthetic trends and narrative languages.

Technology, which is evolving faster and faster, enables nowadays more versatility, precision and speed in physical aspects and, therefore, more freedom to concentrate on expressive and artistic aspects.

The relationship between photography and static digital architecture is undeniable, as is the case with cinema and animated digital architecture. Alex will review the main aesthetic features in this field, the need for photorealism, the structure as protagonist and the importance of its environment, the language of films and photography, as well as the techniques used to intentionally bring together the seventh art and architecture.

PROFILE

Alex Román was born Jorge Seva - adopting this first alias for the spreading of this digital architecture related work - in Alicante, in July 1979. After studying several pictorial and illustrative techniques in various academies, he moved to Madrid, to join the visual effects company Digital Brain.

Shortly after, he moved into the market of digital architecture, working for several companies (Visual3D, Habitat Networks...) until the beginning of 2008, when he voluntarily withdrew to reconsider his professional career and direct his animated piece "The Third & The Seventh".

As of today, he has received several awards, among them, the "2007 Architectural 3D AWARDS Competition", given by Cgarchitect.
