GOLDEN COMPASS:
A DIGITAL TALE OF POLAR BEARS AND ARCTIC ENVIROMENTS

Ivan Moran
Compositing Supervisor - Framestore CFC

An inside look at Framestore CFC's work on 'The Golden Compass', including creating two of the stars of the film, the warrior polar bears Lorek Byrnison and Ragnar, completely digitally. As well as Lorek and Ragnar, Framestore also had the task of creating complex digital environments for the vast expanses of the Arctic, Ragnar's Palace near the North Pole, and over 100 other polar bears. This presentation will look at the many challenges involved in the work on The Golden Compass, including many scenes with complex interaction between real and digital actors.
