In recent years moving images for marketing architecture has become the standard for larger projects. For the project “Blue Waves” Placebo Effects worked together with the architects during the design process gaining a deep understanding of the design concept.

This resulted in our writing, producing and animating a two minute CG film with live action elements. With this film we have strived to put the emphasis on film into architectural animation, focusing on live characters to tell a story about the building using cinematic language. In order to create a compelling film and at the same time produce 40 fully CG shots in less than a month on a tight budget, the story and the VFX was developed in sync.

Kim will present how the story was developed with the visual effects in mind in order to both create a compelling film while keeping the more than 40 fully CG shots doable over the course of less than a month on a tight budget.

KIM BAUMANN LARSEN is creative director and a founding partner of Placebo Effects, a studio providing digital design and visual effects services for the architecture and entertainment industry in Norway. An architect by education Kim enjoys taking on a number of different tasks in the making of visual images from writing, designing, to 3d and visual effects, filming and directing.

Working in computer visualization and digital design since 1993, Kim has lectured at several architecture schools in Scandinavia and the US and at conferences such as the View, Imagina, Mundos Digitales, fmx and Siggraph. He has been a jury member for the digital design Master program at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. Kim is a founding advisory board member of the CGSociety.org and the 5D Immersive Design Conference, co-founder of the Norwegian Society of Visual Effects, and co-founder and co-director of the annual Digital Storytelling seminar on creative use of visual effects in film in Oslo.
