Happy! recounts the experience of alcoholic ex-cop turned hitman Nick Sax who teams up with imaginary unicorn Happy to find a young girl kidnapped by a deranged Santa Claus.

Join Ross and Jose as they talk through the process of translating the graphic novel by Scottish writer Grant Morrison into a believable 3D character. Developing concepts, animation and final rendering, ensuring that Happy, despite his cartoonish appearance, felt like a photoreal and believable addition to the show’s world.

Ross brings his knack for problem-solving, passion for art, and technical prowess to axisVFX as CG supervisor. Ross has a first-class honours degree in Computer Graphics from Kingston University and started his career interning at a Soho-based boutique VFX studio. At axisVFX, Ross has acted as CG supervisor on SyFy’s Happy and lighting lead on Aardman’s Early Man. A total all-rounder, Ross contributes at every step of a project’s delivery, from bidding and establishing workflows to R&D pipeline improvements, troubleshooting, and on-set supervision.

Senior Animator

Axis Animation

Jose brings a wealth of imagination and creativity to Axis Studios as Senior Animator. Jose has animated many of Spain’s most popular films over his 12-year career, including Las Aventuras de Tadeo Jones, Futbolin, and Atrapa la Bandera. Jose worked in both Spain and Argentina before making the move to Glasgow, where he joined Axis Studios in 2016. At Axis he delivers high-end animation across the studio’s roster of game cinematic, film and television work, including work on projects such as League of Legends, Horizon Zero Dawn, Happy and Kiss Me First.
