In this talk we'll journey through the current state of the movie and game industries.

We'll get a clearer picture over the way game technologies are helping moviemaking processes, and the way cinematic storytelling is being embraced by videogames.

While looking at some behind the scenes from the latest Unity demo The Heretic, we'll see how the hybrid game/movie experiences of the future are being shaped by the convergence of both videogame and movie grammar, and how next-gen real-time graphics are changing VFX and animated feature productions.

Mauro will condense concepts and approaches as a result of nearly 20 years of high-end experience in VFX, animation and videogames, to nail some projections about the workflows, pipelines and workforce of the future.

After a kickstart at Sony Computer Entertainment in London and some years in commercials between Italy and France, Mauro moved first to Spain to join Filmax, then to Brazil to produce his independent short movie. He then got back to England to work with BBC and Discovery Channel, until 2010 when he joined Aardman on the production of The Pirates: Band of Misfits.

In the following years, Mauro travelled across North America and Asia, working for Image Engine, Framestore, ILM, and Disney Studios, covering different roles, from Senior Technical Director to sequence Lead and Technical Consultant, on movies such as Edge of Tomorrow, Pirates of The Caribbeans: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Jupiter Ascending, Warcraft, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Infinity War, and more.

After moving on to working as an Art Director on game cinematics like Final Fantasy XV, Uncharted IV, Assassin's Creed: Origins, The Last Guardian, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, League of Legends, and The Witcher: Gwent, in 2017 Mauro founded Treehouse Ninjas, where he's Creative Director, specializing in top quality environments for AAA games and movies. Titles released so far with Treehouse Ninjas are Bethesda's Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, and Unity's The Heretic, while their current ongoing projects will be disclosed soon.
